ELD Connection Plate Kit for Conductive Mesh

TypeComplete Kit

The termination point for a conductive mesh installation. The kit carries the mesh's electrical connection up through the roof assembly to a weatherproof box above the membrane, so Electronic Leak Detection equipment can be connected without disturbing the roof.

A conductive mesh installation is not complete without a connection point. If you are ordering mesh, you need at least one of these.

What's in the kit

  • PVC base
  • Connection plate with attached lead wire
  • Redundant lead wire, separate coil
  • Electrical box with waterproof cover

What you'll also need — not supplied

  • 3/4 in PVC electrical conduit
  • PVC electrical conduit solvent cement
  • Deck fasteners appropriate to your deck material
  • Drill with 1/4 in bit
  • Wire stripper
  • Aluminium foil tape

How it installs

  1. Fasten the PVC base to the roof deck with fasteners suited to the deck material.
  2. Cut 3/4 in conduit long enough to reach from the deck to at least 18 in above the finished membrane, and glue it into the base.
  3. Glue the electrical box onto the top of the conduit.
  4. Build the roof assembly around the base and conduit, stopping at the top of the insulation — do not install cover board or membrane yet.
  5. Drill two 1/4 in holes on opposite sides of the conduit, level with the top of the insulation.
  6. Feed the connection plate lead and the redundant lead up inside the conduit to the box, coil the slack neatly, and fit the waterproof cover.
  7. Lay the conductive mesh across the insulation so it sits directly on top of the connection plate.
  8. Strip 6 in from the end of the redundant lead and weave the bare wire into the mesh.
  9. Cover the bare wire and the plate with aluminium foil tape to hold everything in position.
  10. Complete the assembly and flash the conduit penetration per the membrane manufacturer's specifications.

How many do I need?

At least one per monitored area. Where a roof is divided into separate test zones, each zone needs its own connection point. Where the mesh is bonded to the grounded structure rather than acting as the sole reference, connections are made at several locations — plan accordingly.
