Conductive Mesh for Electronic Leak Detection — ConDuct™ Stainless Steel, 1,800 SF Roll
Conductive mesh gives a roofing or waterproofing assembly the electrical reference that Electronic Leak Detection needs. Laid between the insulation and the cover board, it creates a continuous conductive plane across the roof so low-voltage and high-voltage testing can locate a breach anywhere in the membrane.
Supplied as ConDuct™ Stainless Steel Mesh, open-net style, in 1,800 square foot rolls.
When a conductive mesh is required
Specify conductive mesh when:
- There is no other suitable electrical reference available for high-voltage or low-voltage manual leak detection, or
- The assembly is being built so a permanent always-on leak detection system can be installed or retrofitted later.
Where it goes in the assembly
Bottom to top: roof deck, optional vapour barrier, optional insulation, conductive mesh, cover board, membrane.
Install the mesh between the insulation and the cover board. Do not install it directly beneath the membrane unless both the membrane manufacturer and the leak detection provider have approved it. This is the most common installation error and it compromises the test.

Ordering — read before you calculate
The 1,800 SF figure is gross. Adjacent runs must overlap a minimum of 2 inches at side and end laps, so usable coverage is lower — and lower again on a roof with penetrations, curbs or changes in plane. Order to your laid-out area, not to the gross roll figure.
Handling and cutting
Cut and loose wire ends are sharp. Gloves and eye protection are required. The mesh is tough enough to dull standard metal shears quickly — a small circular grinding wheel cuts it cleanly and quickly. Follow standard grinder safety procedure.
Terminating the mesh
A mesh installation needs a connection point so test equipment can be attached without disturbing the roof. See our ELD Connection Plate Kit.
